Meet Effie - this sweet girl has a special place in the hearts of PCHS staff and volunteers. Effie, roughly a 2 year old pitty mix, came to us several weeks ago from a rescue partner. When she arrived at the shelter, she was severely emaciated, anemic and fighting for her life. Weak, fragile, and barely hanging on, she showed everyone just how strong her spirit truly was. Effie has had extensive care provided by local veterinarians and PCHS staff. The hard work paid off and Effie is well on the way to recovery. She has been working hard at gaining weight with the help of proper nutrition and a strict refeeding plan. Her intake weight was barely 32 pounds! She is now close to 55 and still climbing! While we do not know much about Effie's past, we do know that she is a special girl with the heart of a fighter. She has learned to love and trust PCHS staff and volunteers, but it takes some time to gain her trust. Fast movements or sudden noises spook her. She would thrive in a patient home where her family can provide consistency and stability as she continues to grow and learn about the world around her. Now that she's regained her strength, she's ready for the forever home she's always deserved!
