About Winston Stoney
Winston Stoney is a 1 year and 3 month old pup who recently came to BENCHS after his owners experienced health issues and could no longer care for him. While this change has been difficult, Stoney has been described as a wonderful dog who gets along with just about everyone he meets. Stoney is potty trained and has been used to having some freedom in the home. When his family stepped out for an hour or so, he was not kenneled and did well. However, he has not been left alone for long stretches of time, as his previous owners were retired and home most of the day. Because of that, we are not completely sure how he would do during a full 8 hour work day and would recommend easing him into longer periods of alone time. He currently eats a salmon based dry food and enjoys treats, food rewards, pig ears, and the occasional dog bone. He is fantastic with other dogs and absolutely loves having canine friends. In fact, he played and wrestled with another dog named Maxie every single day. Stoney is also a dog park regular and was taken to the dog park at least five days a week, so he is very comfortable around other dogs. Like many young dogs, he has recently started doing a little humping during play, but overall he is very social and enjoys being around other dogs. Stoney knows the commands "sit" and "kennel," and he loves chasing a ball. His previous owner had been working on teaching him to retrieve, so that could be a fun training project to continue in his new home. He walks using a pinch collar and is described as being good with strangers and generally friendly with everyone he meets. Stoney has not lived with cats or small children before, so slow introductions would be recommended in those situations. He does shed and he also enjoys chewing on things, especially plastic, so having appropriate chew toys available will help keep him happy and occupied. One of the biggest things to know about Stoney is that he is used to an active lifestyle. His previous family gave him a lot of exercise and social time, so he will do best in a home that can continue to give him regular activity, playtime, and opportunities to burn off energy. At the end of the day, Stoney is happy to relax and sleep on the couch or curl up in a dog bed after a day of fun. He is a young, social dog who loves to play, be around people, and spend time with other dogs. With the right home that can keep him active and engaged, Stoney is going to make a fantastic companion.
