Billie is an 8-year-old female Beagle/Basset Hound mix with a gentle heart and the soulful eyes only a hound can have. Her story hasn’t been an easy one, but through it all she has remained incredibly sweet and trusting of the people around her. Billie came to us from a neglect situation in Louisiana. Her owner was suffering from dementia and was unfortunately no longer able to properly care for her. Because of this unintentional neglect, Billie developed a severe case of fleas and mange, which caused hair loss on parts of her body. The good news is that Billie is already well on the road to recovery! She’s receiving the care she needs, her skin is healing, and her fur has already begun growing back. It may take a little time before she looks completely like herself again, but she’s feeling better every day. Despite all the changes and challenges she’s experienced, Billie has stayed in wonderful spirits. She is every bit the sweet, loving hound dog you’d expect. Her favorite place to be is right next to her person—curled up beside you on the couch or, if you’ll allow it, happily snoozing on your lap. She absolutely loves affection, especially belly rubs, and will happily sprawl out to make sure you know exactly where to scratch. Like most Beagles and Basset Hounds, Billie is very food motivated—treats are the fastest way to her heart! She’ll even wag her tail just from making eye contact with you, which tells you everything you need to know about how much she loves people. Billie is also a wonderfully easy companion. She does well with other dogs, cats, and kids. She is fully potty-trained, crate-trained, and has good basic manners. She’s past the chaos of puppyhood and is perfectly content living the relaxed life of a beloved companion. Billie would thrive in just about any home that’s ready to give an older hound a soft place to land—somewhere quiet, cozy, and full of love (and snacks!). In return, she’ll be the loyal little shadow at your side, soaking up belly rubs and living out her days exactly the way she deserves: healthy, happy, and cherished.
