Not many dogs can say they’ve grown up in a shelter—but unfortunately, this sweet girl can. Joy was abandoned in Louisiana when she was just 3 months old and taken in by a shelter, where she spent the next 450 days waiting for someone to notice her. She was never fostered or adopted during that time, and our hearts broke for this beautiful girl. So we brought her up here to give her the fresh start she deserves and help her find her forever home. Because Joy spent most of her life in a shelter environment, she can be a little shy around new people at first—especially men. But with a little patience, some tasty treats, and gentle reassurance, she quickly begins to open up. Once she trusts you, Joy becomes incredibly devoted—you’ll truly have a loyal friend for life. Joy went straight into a foster home and is doing wonderfully learning what life in a home is all about. She’s become her foster mom’s little shadow, happily following her from room to room. She’s also a major cuddle bug and loves to sleep snuggled up between her foster mom and dad every night. She currently lives with three other dogs of different ages and sizes and gets along great with all of them. Joy loves to play—especially zooming around outside and engaging in a good game of tug with her toys. She’s also a big fan of chewing on stuffed toys… although she’s still learning that the household pillows don’t count as stuffies! Joy does well with other dogs and cats and can also do well with children, as long as introductions are slow and respectful. She is fully potty-trained and crate-trained, making her an easy addition to a loving home. Joy would thrive in just about any family willing to give her the love, patience, and security she’s been waiting for her whole life.
