Ilya Rozanov is a 2-year-old, 15-lb Terrier/Maltese mix who is just like his namesake: sweet with a heavy dose of spunk and a little bit of spice ;) He is an extremely playful little dog, who is treat motivated, making him fun to train. He is playful and ready to find a home who will appreciate his lively spirit and dedicate time to continuing his training. His antics will keep you laughing for days. Ilya is a high energy pup who thrives on a mix of walks and zoomies, play time with toys, and mental enrichment. He absolutely loves treat puzzles, tug toys, and games of fetch. He needs exercise outlets due to his high energy. He has done well at doggie daycare! He is extremely people-oriented and happily seeks out pets, cuddles, and attention from his humans. Because Ilya can get excited and “mouthy” during play, he would do best in an adult-only home with experienced dog owners who can continue his training and provide clear structure and boundaries. He has also shown resource guarding over new items, but he is redirected easily with treats. He is smart, food-motivated, and responds well to consistent guidance — a home that enjoys training and engaging with their dog will truly see him shine. With other dogs, Ilya is generally indifferent and prefers calmer companions who respect his space. That said, he has done well at daycare, able to peacefully coexist with other dogs. He can also coexist with dog-savvy cats when supervised, though his initial tendency is to chase and bark. If a cat is in the home, we would require a very experienced adopter who knows how to do proper intros and will be patient in the process. Ilya is crate-trained, potty-trained, and sleeps through the night once settled (takes him about 10-15mins). He enjoys walks, rides well in the car, and loves having toys to entertain himself. His ideal home is one that appreciates a spirited, funny, energetic little dog who wants to be part of the daily routine and who will reward structure and attention with endless personality and companionship. Ilya is: ~2 years old 15lbs High energy Good with dogs who respect his space Okay with dog-savvy cats, though he may chase and bark Loves people, but requires an adult-only home, as he can resource guard Potty Trained Sleeps in the crate at night *MEDICAL special needs: Ilya has been diagnosed with an auto-immune skin disorder called pemphigus foliaceus, the most common autoimmune skin disease in dogs. He has started treatment, which consist of a daily oral steroid. His adopter will need to maintain treatment by scheduling monthly dermatology visits to ensure that this disorder is being managed. The goal is to get him off of steroids completely in the next 4 months and substitute with an allergy medicine like an Apoquel. Because we don't know Ilya's background before being dumped at the shelter, we don't know if his version of pemphigus will be able to be eradicated completely after a 4 month dose of prednisone or if this will be something that will be lifelong management with a combination of drugs. *PLEASE NOTE: all of our dogs are fostered in Houston, TX, where our rescue is based.
