About Gilgamesh
Please read through the entire posting and requirements before applying via our questionnaire at https://alleycatproject.org/adopt Please do not submit an inquiry via Petfinder. Gilgamesh is a 15lb FIV-positive mediumhair tuxedo male who's approximately five years old. With regular vet checkups and indoor-only life, FIV+ cats can live long, healthy lives. You can find more information about this diagnosis on fivcats.com (FIV is unrelated to FeLV). Gilgamesh is a sweet, gentle boy who could be adopted as an only cat, or added to a home with a female and/or petite male; however, Gil has a tendency to become territorial around other large males, so pairing with a boy over 10lbs should be avoided. (Current research shows that you can safely have FIV+ and FIV- cats in the same home, as long as there’s no serious fighting between them & the FIV- cat is not carrying anything contagious. If you’re considering this, please consult your vet about your specific situation.) Gilgamesh received his name because this huge, regal beast carries many a battle scar from his hard life out on the streets, giving him the appearance of a grizzled warrior king. His journey from alley cat to lap cat was a long one, but Gil & I worked on his socialization daily... until finally he became the adorably affectionate boy he is today! Now, Gil craves human attention—whenever I walk past the foster room, he's seated right at the gate, calling out to me with his adorable chirps and trills (you'd never expect a big boy like him to have such a tiny voice!). Whenever he's in the same room with me, it's just a matter of time before he's laying across my feet or resting his head in my lap. Despite Gil's love of attention, he is far from demanding, and is happy enough to just do his own thing—though if you start brushing him, he may pin down your feet with his belly, like a set of furry shackles. I'm pretty sure it's his way of saying, "You stay right here and keep doing what you're doing!" Gil also can be a bit overzealous at times when accepting treats—especially chicken!—but can't really do too much damage these days, as all of his canines have been removed (broken teeth are quite common in tomcats, as they often get smacked into the pavement during territorial disputes). All in all, Gilgamesh is a wonderful cat who is guaranteed to steal your heart. He's confident, laid back, low maintenance, affectionate, gentle, and his health is very robust. He has a very special place in my heart and I hope will be adopted by someone who loves him as much as I do! So if you want a fuzzy footwarmer for a friend, please consider Gil! What Gilgamesh is looking for in a home: - He'll need extra time and TLC to build trust (and adjust to his new home). - He's new to indoor life and will need a kind and patient guide to help him adjust to his new home. - He needs to live indoors only. - He has no known history with dogs. - He has no known history with children. - He has a positive history with other cats* and may like having a feline friend. - He is FIV positive. Please consult with your vet about pairing with an existing cat; otherwise he could also be paired with another FIV+ cat or be an only cat. Alley Cat Project adoption fees are: $200 per cat or kitten $350 for pair of cats or kittens $50 for senior cat (over 8 years old) Additional charitable donations are appreciated and support our overall rescue efforts All Alley Cat Project’s cats are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated prior to adoption. Only applicants who complete the questionnaire will be considered. Please do not submit an inquiry through Petfinder, as it will not replace the questionnaire and we will not respond. Many of our cats receive numerous applications, and we thank you for your patience while we review applications and find the best match. Thank you for your interest in adopting Gilgamesh! If your household fits the above criteria, you can apply to adopt him by filling out this questionnaire: https://alleycatproject.org/adopt
