About Max

Max wakes up each day still willing to trust, even after everything. Her eyes have seen their share of hard times, but she hasn’t let them squash her hope. Life before now didn’t give Max much of a fair shot. She landed at McHenry Animal Control after her previous situation went sideways—which put her former owners in trouble with the law. Through it all, Max waits patiently for her chance to leave the chaos behind and settle into a peaceful home with the care she’s only dreamed of. Despite everything, Max remains affectionate, playful, and has a cheerful streak that shows up when she interacts with people. Right now, she doesn’t do well with other dogs and isn’t looking for animal roommates. A long shelter stay hasn’t helped her tolerance for stressful situations, and it’s best she go to a home where she’s the only pet. Max did live with her sister for a while, but time wore down that relationship. This girl is still learning manners and can be strong-willed, so a home with older children is ideal. Any adopter will get free, in-home professional training tailored to Max, including all tools needed. If you’re looking for a project and love watching confidence bloom, Max is ready for someone willing to commit. She’s due for a bit of peace—and ready for a new chapter. Your new best friend is just one click away.
