About Gretchen
How did this "old" girl end up in a shelter? Gretchen was an abandoned dog. When she entered the shelter they thought she was sick but quickly learned she was pregnant at about 9 years old! She had a puppy that did not survive and then tried to have a second but was taken to the ets to have it removed. That puppy did not survive either. Imagine, homeless and pregnant at 8-9 years old. To add to her still births she had an infected uterus, had surgery, was spayed, had heart worm and was treated, She's an awesome dog but introductions to resident dogs when she was ill and looking to decompress after all she'd been through were a failure....not because of her but because of lack of experience in handling this scenario. Instead of assuming she was just a gad dog, we had her transported to our trainer and, with gentle love and caring she will fit into a home. Gretchen is a strong willed and determined girl. I imagine all that she'd been through helped her become a confident dog. She is nothing that you would expect for her age. She is fairly active when enjoying outside time, but also loves cuddles and human interaction. She is all that you would want in a companion and would likely do best with no other dog competition because of her strong will. Being with HER PERSON is the most important thing to her. In her golden years, she should be stretched out on a couch. She is house broken, good on a leash, and crate trained....although at her age, she is not a dog that gets into chewing and mischief. Have you ever thought about adopting a senior dog? Seniors are often overlooked- not because they aren't amazing, but because people worry about medical costs and age. We want to remove those worries with our "Adopt a Senior Program". This program was created to give older dogs the comfort and stability they deserve in their golden years and help their incredible adopters as well.
