About Pita Chip

Do you have room in your heart for this little girl? Pita is about one and a half years old and 20 pounds. She is was recently dropped at a high kill shelter. She was missing part of her front right leg and seemed to have a few other issues, but her spunky personality caught our eye. It appears the leg loss was not a birth defect or surgical but rather the result of a traumatic injury (possibly hit by a car). Pita is blind in her right eye as well. After careful consideration, we made the decision to amputate the remaining portion of the limb - Pita would try to walk on it and that resulted in abrasions on the stump and multiple "face plants" every day. The surgery was rough but Pita has bounced back with her usual enthusiasm. She is a sweet girl, loves her treats, and is house broken. Her mobility has improved and she loves being outside when the weather is good. We are working on muscle strength and Pita would benefit from daily walks and outside time in a fenced year. Pita tends to hop and jump when she runs and still has a bit of difficulty balancing especially when she is excited. She has trouble on hardwood floors and with steps but can manage 2-3 steps to get in and out of the house. She will allow you to carry her up and down stairs but is not a fan of being picked up. Pita is nervous of new people but will be your bff after a few treats and if you allow her to come to you. She may grumble and growl at first but she is all bark and no bite. Pita is very interested in other dogs but would do best with dogs her size. She does enjoy running after cats although they have the 4-legged advantage! After she gets the zoomies out, Pita will snuggle and beg for belly rubs. She would do best in a home with older children (she tends to get underfoot and not always intentionally) and in a house with some carpeted floors. Pita is looking for her home and, in return, will reward you with undying love. If you would like to learn more about her, please fill out an application. This pup is the true definition of a "rescue" and deserves all the good things life has to offer.
