Hi, I'm Carla, the Foster Manager at HHS, and I am NOT up for adoption! But--the beautiful Maisie IS. Every once in a while, a dog comes along who quietly changes your heart. For me, that dog is Maisie. When one of our partners in Southern Illinois reached out about a 10 year-old mama who was pregnant and heartworm positive, I knew immediately she needed more than just placement-she needed someone in her corner. So, I brought her home myself. Not long after, this brave and gentle girl gave birth to seven beautiful puppies, all of whom will be going up for adoption this week. She has done her job lovingly, patiently, and without complaint. Now, it's Maisie's turn. She is truly one of the sweetest souls I've ever fostered. She's dog-friendly, cat-friendly, and wonderful with kids. She's completely housebroken and doesn't need a crate. She simply finds her favorite cozy spot and settles in. What is her favorite place? Anywhere outside in the sunshine, just soaking up the warmth like she's finally able to rest. She isn't high energy. She doesn't ask for much. She's a calm and easygoing girl who just wants reassurance that she has a home, a soft place to sleep, and food in her bowl (especially if that food happens to include her absolute favorite: hot dogs). Yes, she is heartworm positive. But that doesn't define her, and it shouldn't scare away the right adopter. She has already started treatment and is on her way to her first injection, and HHS will cover the cost of her heartworm care. All she needs is someone willing to open their heart while she continues healing. I may be a little partial to her sweet, gentle face, but I truly believe that whoever chooses her will be the lucky one. She has given so much already, and she deserves a home where she can simply be loved for the rest of her days.
