About Fries
Fries faces shelter life with a lot of pent-up energy and excitement, making her a challenge for both the staff and any adopter not ready for her strength. She's a young, large dog who, in her previous home, lived with both a child and an older adult. Unfortunately, her exuberance was too much—she knocked people over and, in two stressful moments, delivered minor bites when startled or being surrendered. Shelter staff have found Fries to be manageable and friendly when approached calmly, suggesting her challenges come from under-stimulation and overarousal, not true aggression. Fries has had positive interactions with small dogs in the past and greets large dogs with enthusiasm, though her excitement can be overwhelming. She barks, pulls, and strains to meet them, which means walks aren’t easy unless you’re physically up to the task. She has done well in playgroups at the shelter, but her drive to interact is intense, and her reactivity requires commitment and training in a new home. If Fries can get the exercise, structure, and fulfillment she craves, her true sweet side will show. Shelter life is not meeting her needs, and her behavior will deteriorate if she stays much longer. She needs an experienced, strong adopter to give her a real chance. Every animal deserves to be set up for success—Fries is waiting for someone up to the challenge. Adoption is the new adventure! Questions about Fries
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Fries, as a Pit Bull Terrier and German Shorthaired Pointer mix, will thrive in an active home where she gets plenty of physical and mental stimulation. She isn't a good match for a home with small children or physically frail individuals due to her strength and excitement.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Fries will do well in a home with a securely fenced yard where she can burn off energy daily. Access to outdoor space is important for her wellbeing, as she's an energetic, large-breed dog.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Given Fries's high energy and past incidents, homes with older teens or adults are a better fit. Pit Bull Terrier and German Shorthaired Pointer mixes aren't always suitable for small children, especially if they're exuberant like Fries.
