Yes, their names are Wombat and Weasel — and no, we don’t actually know what species they are either. With Southern mixed-breed puppies, the best guess is usually “a little bit of everything,” and these two are no exception. At just nine weeks old and about seven pounds each, Wombat and Weasel are tiny, squishy, and full of personality. We suspect they’ll stay on the smaller side, but since they’re nowhere near fully grown, only time will tell. Weasel has especially hilarious little eyes that drift slightly to the side, which makes us think there might be some pug in the family tree… but like most Southern pups, their DNA probably reads like a whole recipe book. These two were found on the side of the road in South Carolina, likely dumped by a backyard breeder. A shelter is no place for fragile young puppies to grow up, so they made the journey north to Pennsylvania to get the fresh start they deserve. They are happy, playful babies who are learning the ropes of puppy life. Both are working on potty training and crate training, and doing well — but they will absolutely need families committed to consistency, routine, and positive reinforcement to help them become well-rounded adult dogs.
