About Oatmeal

Meet Oatmeal - the Sweetest Little Shadow You'll Ever Have Oatmeal is a calm, gentle, snuggly little guy who just wants to bond deeply with his person. Once he trusts you, he becomes the ultimate Velcro dog: loyal, affectionate, and happiest curled up right by your side. He's about 3 years old and 28 lbs. He's wonderfully easy in the home-100% potty trained, well-behaved, and content to quietly hang out while you go about your day. His Strengths Sweet, cuddly, and loves his humans fiercely Calm and low-maintenance in the home Great manners and fully potty trained Enjoys gentle pets and will even ask for attention once he feels safe Non-reactive to calm dogs in neutral environments Responds well to slow, respectful introductions Did great with kids he met at public events His Ideal Home Oatmeal has classic small-guardian-breed instincts (very schnauzer-coded!). He can be wary of strangers entering the home until he knows them, and he thrives with people who understand dogs who like to "keep watch" and warm up at their own pace. Once he bonds with you, he's incredibly sweet, snuggly, and easy to handle. He would do best as an only dog, or with a very calm, non-reactive dog who gives him space and doesn't overwhelm him. What He Needs From His Humans A family familiar with schnauzers or other small guardian-type breeds Slow, gentle introductions with new people Respect for his boundaries (especially with his feet or backside) A predictable home where he can feel secure Owners who will advocate for him with visitors Willingness to use calming meds for vet/groomer visits if needed Oatmeal is a loving, devoted little companion who just wants to feel safe and understood. If you're looking for a snuggly buddy who will be your loyal sidekick, Oatmeal may be your perfect match. Other info will be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the high volume of introductions/questions received we ask you to submit an application (that application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue). All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention. For more on this, or for additional information, including the adoption process and our adoption fee scale for all our adoptable pets (including an explanation about Benefactor Dogs), please see our FAQs page: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/faq Any breed labels used by Take Paws Rescue, its employees/volunteers, or on vet records provided cannot be guaranteed. Breed labels are given based on information obtained during intake and/or best guesses based on appearance and/or temperament of the dogs and Take Paws Rescue gives no assurance to the accuracy of these labels. Labels are necessary for postings to many animal networking sites, such as our website, Chewy, Pet Finder, and others. These are in no way a guarantee. Additionally, exact age and potential size cannot be guaranteed. ***Take Paws Rescue saves dogs from high-kill shelters across the South, owner surrenders, and discarded dogs with uncertain futures. All of our animals live in foster homes where they are socialized, and well cared for. An application will be required to make sure it's the perfect match!
