About Timmy

Why choose me? Update: 🚨Timmy's story mentions a history of trauma that is disturbing.🚨 Timmy is a 3-year-old hound mix who has managed to remain sweet, gentle, and full of life despite the heartbreaking story that his x-rays tell. This pup was brought to UGA's Emergency Hospital after being found by a Good Samaritan. He was limping on both his right front and back legs, but still in good spirits. At UGA, it was immediately noted that the carpal joint on his front leg was swollen, with two severe draining wounds immediately visible. However, the cause was still unknown. After being stabilized and transferred to ACCAS, Timmy was then taken to one of our partner veterinary clinics for further evaluation. What was found at this visit broke the hearts of everyone involved. Timmy had been shot. But not just once, or even twice. Timmy had been shot many, many times throughout his life. Timmy's x-rays revealed the swelling and wounds visible on his front leg were due to a gunshot wound that had destroyed some bone, and left behind small lead fragments & an active osteomyelitis. They also revealed another gunshot wound to his right back leg, with remaining lead fragments and evidence of a previous orthopedic surgery visible. He has a broken IM pin attached to his femur, parts of which have now migrated to other parts of his leg, while parts of the plate and wire are still attached to the original fracture site. In addition, Timmy had been shot with multiple (over 10 😒) bird shot pellets that can be seen scattered throughout the hind half of his body. We are still figuring out the next steps of Timmy's plan. Because several of his limbs are affected, the process is delicate and complicated. However, what we DO know is he will likely need several surgeries, long courses of several medications (antibiotics and for pain), and prolonged medical care in order to heal. Timmy deserves his second chance at life, and we want to give that to him. * * * Timmy is a sweet, handsome dog. Sadly, life has been hard for him lately. It seems that he and four other dogs were abandoned when the owners moved away. I don't know where the other dogs are, but Timmy had been seen wandering for some time. One of his hind legs is lame, and another front leg is swollen. Still, Timmy wanted to join me in an interaction pen. He picked up a toy, but I didn't think I should encourage him to run, so I didn't throw it for him. He was happy for pets and treats, and I got him to lie down and relax. He really is a nice dog and deserves a better life than he's had. Unfortunately, Timmy has heartworms, so he's only available to rescue, foster, or foster-to-adopt once his stray hold ends. After he's treated for heartworms, he'll also be available for adoption.
