Spirit is a roughly 9-month-old Malinois mix with a sensitive heart and so much potential. He came to us feeling scared and overwhelmed, but with time, patience, and gentle guidance, we’re already seeing encouraging changes in him every day. Spirit can be nervous around new things and is especially unsure around most men, but he has shown a clear preference for women and has formed a sweet bond with one of our female teenage volunteers. Even with his fears, Spirit is trying—and that effort speaks volumes about the kind of dog he is. In the short time he’s been here, Spirit has already made progress with his anxieties, showing that he wants to learn and trust. He is potty trained and knows some basic commands, which tells us someone loved him and invested in him before he arrived. Spirit will thrive in a patient, understanding home that allows his nervous system the time it needs to settle and feel safe. With consistency, kindness, and love, this sweet boy has all the tools to grow into an incredibly loyal and devoted companion.
