About Mya
Mya is only 2 years oldâand already, sheâs been asked to start over more times than any young dog should. Before coming to Dog Squad, Mya had lived in two to three different homes, never quite given the chance to settle, learn, and feel safe. When she arrived in rescue, she came with very few boundaries and a deep distrust of unfamiliar humansânot because sheâs âbad,â but because inconsistency has been her norm. Dogs like Mya are often labeled too much: too nervous, too reactive, too misunderstood. Passed along instead of supported. But we see her differently. Rather than ignoring the hard parts or leaving them for a future adopter to navigate alone, we chose to start supporting Mya right awayâbecause thatâs what sets dogs up for long-term success. With the help of her incredible foster family and professional guidance, Mya has begun learning what safety, structure, and clear expectations feel like. Mya is currently working through confidence-building and thoughtful, positive training. She is also being muzzle trainedânot because she is aggressive or dangerous, but because when done correctly, a muzzle is a supportive tool. It helps lower stress, increases safety, and allows dogs like Mya to experience the world in a way that feels manageable and secure. And sheâs doing wonderfully. In just a short time, weâre already seeing meaningful changes: more calm, more trust, and growing confidence. Mya has successfully participated in public outings, greeted other dogs appropriately, and shown just how capable she is when given the right guidance. At her core, Mya is a total doll. She bonds deeply with her people, is incredibly loyal once she feels safe, and truly enjoys playing with other dogs. She thrives in environments where expectations are clear and humans are patient, consistent, and kind. Important placement notes: ⢠Mya will need a cat-free home ⢠She will do best in a home with no small children ⢠She is looking for adopters who understand that trust is built over timeâand who are willing to continue the structure and training sheâs started Mya isnât âtoo much.â Sheâs just been through too much. And we cannot wait to watch her continue to bloom into the dog she was always meant to be. www.dogsquadsc.org/mya
