About Raven

Meet Raven (ACCT-A-242817)! Found as a stray, this sweet girl is looking for a special someone to help her blossom. Raven can be a little shy and nervous when she first meets new people, and loud noises and sudden movements can be a bit scary for her. But with patience, gentle encouragement, and maybe a tasty treat or two, she quickly warms up. Once Raven feels safe, her sweet and loving personality shines through. She enjoys gentle affection and will even offer you her belly for rubs! She's treat-motivated and learns quickly with positive reinforcement. Because Raven can be a bit unsure of new things, she would do best in a home with adults only, where she can feel secure and build her confidence at her own pace. She's a smart dog with so much love to give; she just needs the right person to help her shine! If you're looking for a loyal companion and are willing to give Raven the time and patience she needs to thrive, she might just be the perfect match for you! Meet Raven any day from 10am-6pm! I easily leashed her on the first try, and then she hesitantly walked out. She peeks through and around doorways before walking through them, and then hesitantly walks through. Very loose body language out in the play yard and immediately came up to me and showed me her belly! Was comfortable the whole time in the play yard. I started to give her belly rubs and she sank down to the floor with her legs up on the wall just really taking it all in. She seems very comfortable with me after a slower intro. Took Treats incredibly gently from my hand and solicited more out. Pretty treat motivated and gave gentle tail wags when she got them. Pulled heavily to go back into kennel then easily unleashed her Per Staff 02/12/2026: Raven was initially very wary of us. Did exam and vaccines in volunteer office to reduce stress. P was very receptive to pepperoni, so we used it extensively. P only tolerated minimal handling, but would lip curl if we pushed too far, and did well when we backed off.Used a combination of a peanut butter squeeze treat and pepperoni to give Rabies and DHPP vaccines without direct restraint. P was cautious of me approaching with the needle, but ultimately did surprisingly well with it. Gave Bordetella while P licked peanut butter treat. Did not attempt microchip as P did not want to be touched on her torso. Per Staff 02/12/2026: When I approached Raven's kennel, she gave a low growl, clearly signaling that she didn't want to be approached. I tossed a few treats into her kennel, which she accepted gently. Once she relaxed a bit, I was able to slip the leash over her, and she exited the kennel calmly, though still very nervous about movement and sounds around her.I walked her outside, and she passed several people without issue, choosing to ignore them and continue walking. I then brought her into the volunteer room, where she remained cautious of the two nurses present. One nurse offered her a piece of pepperoni, and Raven sat politely, giving a small, tentative tail wag. We continued to build her confidence with treats and gentle encouragement.I placed some peanut butter on the door, and we were able to administer her vaccines without any trouble she tolerated everything very well. Afterward, I clipped her leash back on and began walking her toward her kennel. Due to the noise and movement from the other dogs, she was hesitant and did not go in willingly.Raven appears to be a dog who needs time, patience, and gentle reassurance to feel safe. Once she begins to trust, she shows herself to be a very sweet and loving girl. Behavior Eval 02/12/2026: Kennel Presentation: Laying down on the bed when I first approached. Came right to the front of the kennel with soft eyes, ears to the side and tail down wagging. Leash Skills: Easy to leash and came right out of the kennel. Mildly pulled on the leash. Sociability: Allowed all handling and leaned into my legs. She rolled onto her back and allowed belly rubs. Then did jump up on me body checking me. Play: n/a Dog Interaction: Met Flappy. She did not want to walk up to the fence to greet. On the walk she pulled away from him and when he came closer to sniff her she pulled hard away from him. Return to Kennel: Went right back in to kennel and unleashed without issue. Color Level: Blue Recommendations and considerations: Per Staff 02/11/2026: Sitting on the bed with had low ears back while eye, started offering treats and came to the front took treats gently anytime I would bring a treat out of the bag get a low tail wag Per Staff 02/11/2026: In the kennel sitting, head low, whale eye, mouth closed. Used food to leash easily, tail wags when giving food. Walked with a hunched body and eye darting to the outside door, turned and wanted to backtrack so went into volunteer office. Sniffed around, flinched when touched initially. Took treats with a harder mouth. Continue to offer food and attempt touching, and she slowly loosened up with ears back low tail wags when interacting with us without food, eyes got softer and tell wags got bigger the more we interacted, ended up, nuzzling her head into Stevie's lap. Easy to go back in for a treat. Can try later to check in, she is likelyReady. https://youtube.com/shorts/WwdSU5VJ5_8?si=n9paerOoRF9fae1W Per Staff 02/10/2026: Dog was in the corner of the police van scared and growling when aca was trying to get her out I was able to get control pole on her and got her out the van she walked to the kennels with no trouble Per Staff 02/10/2026: Changing to evaluate: Low growling, whale eyeing and showing teeth in kennel Per Staff 02/10/2026: Initial Kennel presentation Raven was shut down in the backside of her kennel. Any time I tossed treats too her or near her she flinched uninterested. When I opened the kennel door she immediately ran to the front side of the kennel. When I walked around to the front side of the kennel she ran back to the other side avoiding me. I dropped the kennel door to keep her on the back side, when I approached the back side I noticed Raven jumping up on the sides of the kennel exit searching. When she noticed me she immediately became stiff and whale eyed. When I showed her my leash she started low growling and lip raising when I put my leash through the kennel bars - Medical Matt G ACCT Philly is located at 111 West Hunting Park Ave in Philadelphia.
