About Poncho

Click apply to start the adoption process. Meet Poncho—the biggest goofball you'll ever encounter! Poncho is a 6-year-old American Bulldog mix who is making up for lost time and having an absolute blast along the way. This 60-pound, spotted sweetheart is full of charm, personality, and boundless, silly energy that is sure to make you smile every single day. Since arriving at the rescue, Poncho has discovered the pure joys of kiddie pools, belly rubs, his favorite toys, and doing full-speed zoomies around the yard. He adores every person he meets, greeting each new friend with excited wiggles and the most hopeful eyes. Poncho is still learning his manners, especially about his enthusiasm to jump when he's happy, so a home without small children will be ideal while he continues to practice. Coming from a life spent mostly outdoors, things like crate and potty training were brand new to Poncho. Despite this, he's made impressive progress. He’s now very comfortable in his kennel and does well in indoor spaces for longer periods—making his transition to full crate training in a home setting likely smooth. He's nearly mastered potty training, though he may still mark occasionally, something expected to improve as he settles and learns the home’s routine. Poncho will thrive with basic training, and his eagerness to please, love of food, and deep affection for people make him a joyful student. He hasn’t been formally tested with other dogs or cats yet but has shown no negative reactions to dogs he’s passed by. However, his exuberance might be too much for feline companions. Poncho’s history is a testament to his resilience—after spending much of his life outdoors and then losing his previous family, he was supported by C.H.A.I.N.E.D. in Detroit before coming to the rescue. Now safe indoors and surrounded by comfort, Poncho is ready for the loving, patient home he’s always deserved. In return, he promises endless love, laughter, and sheer happiness. If you want a loyal dog who will brighten your life with joy and goofy antics, Poncho is your guy. Make their next chapter their best one yet.
