Meet Lucas, a loving and playful boy who is ready to sprint his way into your heart! Lucas is a three year old Shepherd/Black Mouth Cur mix. This athletic guy is always up for a game or a good ol' fashioned cuddle session on the couch. With his affectionate nature, he'll be your loyal companion through thick and thin. This sweetheart was adopted from us a year ago and was initially a stray upon entering the shelter. He was returned to us through no real fault of his own when his owners found themselves in over their heads with how much work and dedication a young, exuberant dog can require! Lucas does have a fair amount of energy, and he would benefit greatly from an active family committed to exercising him and burning off the excess. He also definitely needs a very secure fence in his next home. He has a wandering spirit and will escape from a yard that has a low or vulnerable fence. He always returned home (or near to home) on his escapades, but too many dangers could befall a dog exploring the great big world all on his own. So if he does not go to a country home with lots of space to roam, be mindful that he could get bored and plot new adventures for himself if the opportunity presents. And due to a lack of training, Lucas is not great on recall yet, which complicates the issue if he does escape. With proper instruction though, Lucas is eager to learn new things and please his people. He also is not sufficiently housebroken yet, and will need an owner willing to show him the ropes in his new home. He may need a little work, but he is well worth the effort and is truly an emotionally rewarding dog to be around, despite not always knowing exactly what's expected of him! Lucas absolutely adores people, including children. Full disclosure, he does jump some, and he could easily knock small kids over on accident. This is a very trainable issue, but potential adopters need to be aware that this is a habit that is not yet broken in this fella. Lucas has also been around both other dogs and cats; he did well with the dogs (and we can also do a meet and greet with your pooch out here for peace of mind) but proved to be a kitty chaser. Due to this, he will not be adopted into a home with cats, for everybody's safety. No exceptions! This handsome boy has had his first round of vaccinations and is already neutered.
