Rhett (also known as Roo) is a 4 lb, 6-month-old puppy who is ready for adoption and expected to stay tiny, likely topping out around 7 lbs. He is a "designer dog" from a purebred white Japanese mini poodle dad (7 lbs) and a tri-color Pomeranian mom (5 lbs). That unique combination is also how he earned his nickname “Roo” — his back legs are longer than his front legs, and he bounces around like a little kangaroo. Don't let the "designer dog" tag fool you. Born into a world of neglect, isolation and probable abuse with a backyard breeder, Roo came to us shut down, quiet, terrified and unsure of the world. He didn’t know how to enjoy a dog bed or blanket, didn’t understand stairs, and didn’t know how to confidently move through normal home life like doors, couches, or everyday routines. With love and patience, he has transformed since then. Roo is now the happy, bouncy, playful, loving puppy he was meant to be. He gets excited when a fresh blanket is put down, does the adorable little “digging” routine before settling in, and confidently hops onto the couch or bed to find his spot. Roo loves food, loves his people, and loves to play and wrestle. He is also affectionate and enjoys snuggling, especially after he has had time to play and burn off energy. He thrives with other small dogs and loves playing with small, friendly, young, playful dogs. He has not been around big dogs, and because he is very small and fragile, he should be placed in a home without large dogs. His coat is another standout feature. His fur has a gorgeous silver/white/gray tone that does not photograph how truly striking it is in person. It is incredibly soft, and he does not shed. Roo’s ideal home includes another small, friendly, playful dog, a family that is home most of the time, and a yard. He bonds deeply and does best with consistency and companionship. For a puppy this young, he has already been through far more than he should have, and he deserves a stable, loving forever home where he can keep building confidence and living the joyful life he has only recently learned is possible.
