About Sampson
Sampson is a big, striking Akita—about 3–4 years old and built for presence—looking for a new start in Brookhaven, NY. After his owner was hospitalized, Sampson landed in the shelter through no fault of his own and has navigated the transition as well as anyone could hope. Even in the shelter’s stressful bustle, his playful, social, and sometimes goofy personality has come through. He’s crate trained, knows his basics (sit, down, paw), and does great in the car. Around people, he’s affectionate and loves company. Sampson’s size and strength are no exaggeration. At roughly 105 lbs, he brings a lot of energy and may jump when excited, so a steady hand and good breed know-how are best. He previously lived with other dogs and has gotten along well in the past, though further dog testing is ongoing at the shelter. There’s no history with cats or young children, so a household with kids 14+ is important. No known behavioral issues have popped up, and he comes from a loving background—he just needs a place that understands large guardian breeds and can offer structure and patience. If you have experience with Akitas or other strong, loyal breeds, Sampson could be your next great companion. He has plenty of love (and couch space) to share with the right match.
