About Basil Baron

Basil Baron is a striking 8-year-old Bichon/Poodle mix who landed with the rescue after his time as a stray at the San Bernardino City Animal Shelter. He came in with a left eye infection and ultimately lost the eye, but you’d never know it from how well he’s adapted. When he first arrived, Basil was underweight and very sick with kennel cough and pneumonia, topped off with a tricky fungal infection that took some effort to diagnose. He practically ignored food for weeks, but these days he’s a healthy 15 pounds and looks forward to his homemade meals. Basil had never lived in a house before, and early on he’d tremble when carried to bed, afraid he was in trouble. It’s taken time and patience, but he’s learned comfort and safety. He enjoys being the center of attention and would thrive as an only dog. An easygoing female dog companion could work, but he doesn’t require one. Basil’s biggest love in life is playing ball—he’ll fetch for hours, even when he’s not feeling his best. He’s done well with professional groomers, is good in the car, and interacts calmly with other resident rescues. While Basil will instinctively bark at the gardener or pool guy, it’s more protective than nuisance. He’s had thorough vetting, including dental work, vaccinations, microchip, neuter, and labs—he has a manageable grade two heart murmur and needs daily medication, supplied for the first three months and available at-cost through the rescue’s vet. Basil is looking for a quiet home with an adult around most of the day. Retirees would be a natural fit. He’d be content whether you’re active or more homebody. He’s also fine with grandkids or anyone willing to throw a ball with him. Basil Baron is in Cathedral City, CA and ready for his family. Lets make it official, apply to adopt!
