About Brutus

Meet Brutus—sometimes called Bubba. He’s a young Australian Cattle Dog whose former owner couldn’t give him the time he needed. Like many working dogs, Brutus isn’t going to mesh with every home. If you’ve spent time around cattle dogs and know their quirks, he might be the one for you. Brutus absolutely needs an adopter committed to structure, clear training, and patience. He’s extremely sharp—he watches a new task once and figures it out fast, often with a stubborn streak and plenty of personality. Brutus is curious, watches everything, and pushes boundaries. He checks the food bin as often as allowed, always testing and giving you a look when you bust him. He’s had food aggression issues, but with a consistent feeding routine and professional guidance, this is improving, though a careful eye is still needed around other dogs at mealtimes. Brutus thrives on play and mental challenge. He’s balls-obsessed and will announce it loudly, dropping one at your feet and barking for the next toss. He knows several commands (sit, down, wait, get down, leave) and walks nicely on leash. He’s housebroken and comfortable in a crate, though he might bark at first. His separation anxiety is improving, especially with routine and clear boundaries. Personal space has taken some getting used to for Brutus, but he’s starting to lean into affection. Recently he hopped up and snuggled against your legs—a big step for this complex guy. With patience, routine, and a calm leader, Brutus will reward you with loyalty and personality to spare.
