About Riker
Riker is a 12-pound neutered male Shetland Sheepdog/Australian Shepherd mix, around eight months old. He’s got a thick, medium-length coat that benefits from regular brushing and just needs the occasional trim on his fluffy feet—no full haircuts required. Riker is friendly and affectionate with the people he trusts, but he takes a little time to warm up to new faces. He spent most of his early life crated, but his foster home is helping him build confidence and come out of his shell more each day. Riker loves toys and does well with other dogs. He even did fine during an overnight with a cat, although he’s not currently living with one. He’s still nervous around younger children and should go to a home where any kids are at least 12. Crate training is in progress and he’s picking up house training well. Riker walks nicely on a leash and enjoys being an active companion. If you’re looking for a dog to train and help flourish with patience and routine, Riker is ready for his new chapter. Give them the home they have been waiting for. Apply today.

Questions about Riker
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Riker, as a Shetland Sheepdog/Australian Shepherd mix, thrives in a home where he gets plenty of attention, mental stimulation, and room to play—ideally with an active family or a dedicated owner.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Both Shelties and Australian Shepherds benefit from access to a secure yard or regular trips to a park. Riker would enjoy daily outdoor play and walks to stay happy and healthy.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
These breeds are generally gentle and affectionate, but since Riker can be nervous around small children, homes with kids 12 or older suit him best.
