Dax is one of those rare young dogs who already has wonderful manners and a soft, affectionate heart. At just 6 months old, this pointer mix has an easygoing nature that makes him feel like he’s been part of a family before — and he’s ready to be part of one again. Dax came to AHeinz on transport from a small Oklahoma shelter and is settling into his foster home beautifully, with its 3 resident dogs. He is getting along with them wonderfully and is kind to the 10 lb chihuhua, so will fit into a family with small dogs and maybe cats (though he needs to be cat tested to be sure). He weighs about 35 pounds now and is skinny, and will put on some more muscle and weight in the coming months. Adult pointers are the perfect size for outdoor adventures but not overwhelming indoors. Dax loves being near his human, checking in, and soaking up affection. He’s not pushy or over-the-top — just sweet, attentive, and happy to be by your side. When it’s time to relax, you’ll find him calmly working on a Kong, chewing a bone, or enjoying enrichment toys at your feet. That said he's not a velcro dog and doesn't get underfoot. Dax would make a fantastic family dog and outdoor companion.
