Meet Sky Sky is a two-and-a-half-year-old terrier mix who arrived at our shelter in the most heartbreaking way—abandoned in a crate outside our front door in the early morning hours. Alone. Confused. Absolutely terrified. No note. No explanation. Just a little girl left behind. At first, Sky is timid and unsure, and who could blame her after what she’s been through? She needs a bit of time and patience to feel safe. But once she realizes she’s not going to be hurt or left again, her true self shines. Sky becomes the sweetest, most affectionate little soul—a 30-pound lovebug who adores being held like a baby and just wants to be close to her person. Sky would do best in an adult-only home where things are calm and predictable. She is more timid around men, so a female-only home is preferred, though a patient, gentle man who understands giving her space could also be a good match. She has played with other dogs, but due to her sensitive nature, she would likely thrive as the only pet, where she doesn’t have to compete for attention and can build trust at her own pace. This little girl has already been failed once—let’s not let it happen again. Sky has endured so much in such a short life, and all she wants now is what she’s always deserved: safety, kindness, and someone to love her forever. If you can offer Sky the patience and compassion she needs, she will give you her whole heart in return. The NAWS Dog Adoption Program operates as rescue versus a shelter. We believe in matching the right dog with the appropriate family based on each specific dog and family’s needs. To achieve this, we believe in spending the appropriate amount of time with each family to allow for enough interaction time with potential adopters.
