About Copper

Copper is a striking Australian cattle dog, 1.5 to 2 years old and about 35 lbs. True to his breed, he's smart, high-energy, and deeply loyal—especially to his foster mom, who he shadows closely and loves to curl up with. He gets along with most dogs but insists on keeping everyone in line, often herding and vocalizing when another dog steps out of bounds. Copper is careful and gentle enough never to have hurt a cat or small dog, yet his instincts are strong, so he won’t be placed in a home with small kids or small animals. Copper strongly bonds to a female owner and needs an adopter experienced with heelers who understands—and appreciates—his herding style. He was previously adopted into a home with young children, which didn't work out, so experience and the right environment are non-negotiable. Copper had a traumatic encounter with a shock collar, and now refuses anything around his neck. He is fine with a harness and does well running off-leash on safe property. Prospective adopters must be geographically close to East TN, as Copper will need to be picked up nearby. His foster can meet halfway for the right adopter. Every animal needs a proper match, and Copper is looking for a home ready for a loyal, clever, and energetic companion who’ll devote himself to his person.
