About Aspen
Housetrained? Yes, with a dog door. Experience with dogs? Yes, he lives with 3 dogs bigger than him, and in his previous foster home, he lived with three smaller than him. Experience with cats? Yes, in his previous foster home. He was curious but respectful. Experience with kids? Unknown, but I think he'd probably do alright. Details on leash training, crate training and other training commands known: He is crate trained, especially if you throw a treat in. We're working on manners and leash training. Details on personal history, if known (how did he/she arrive at the shelter): Aspen was part of a hoarding case and was exposed to distemper, although has shown no signs of it. It appears that he and his doggie friends all got along well together. He has been healthy and is considered no longer infectious and ready for his forever home! Describe cuddling behavior/affection level: It's somewhere between Stage 5 clinger and cuddlebug. He loves to cuddle! After a little bit he settles in and is just happy to be with you. Describe play behavior and favorite toys: Very playful. He's even gotten my crabby, older dog to play with him by relentlessly walking up and bowing to her. He's learning about toys, and boy is he a fan! He'll chase anything you throw, but hasn't quite figured out to bring it back so you can throw it again. Describe activity level: He's young, so he's very energetic, but will settle once you've exercised him. He loves following my hound and helping her hunt for lizards. Look into the dogโs eyes. What is he/she telling you? His eyes tell me what a good, sweet boy he is. What are the best adjectives to describe this dog? Happy, sweet, cuddly, loving, energetic, smart, eager to please, gentle and playful. What does the dog specifically DO that exemplifies those adjectives (ex. Maybe a good adjective for the dog is โlovingโ. You know that because he lays his head in your lap.) In the morning, while I drink my coffee, he hops up next to me and wiggles and puts his head on my shoulder so I can pet him before settling down. He also loves to dove out the door so he can inspect the yard with the other dogs. What are the dogโs best qualities? His exuberance for everything, and his expressive face. What are your favorite things about this dog? Cute behaviors? He has the cutest little awoos, like a siren, when you come home and let him out of the crate, followed by a lot of bowing and stretching. What is/are your favorite physical characteristic(s) of this of this dog? His full-body wiggles and his adorable face. He's like a Disney cartoon dog. What would the ideal home look like for this dog? One with a person or family willing to make him a big part of their family. He'd do best with at least one other confident dog to help show him how to fit in. Because he came from a rural hoarding case, everything has been brand new to him. He's bright and eager to learn, but will need some patience while he adjusts. Anything else that would make this dog stand out to an adopter? He's a phenomenal dog. He's got such a big personality in a smaller body.
