Plum looks like a discount Italian Greyhound, long legs, slim body, narrow face, but she's 100% a Chicago dog. This little lady was found as a stray and wasn't in great shape, but she has absolutely thrived in foster care and is now ready for her forever home. Plummie is an older puppy, which means she's bursting with playful energy and loves exploring her world. When she's not busy being curious, she's a serious cuddle bug. Like... wants-to-be-your-best-friend-forever cuddly. If there's an inch between you and the armchair, Plum will find it. Working on your computer? That tiny space between you and the laptop is clearly reserved for Plum. Lying in bed with a cold neck? No worries, Plum is happy to be the big spoon, warming you up with her cozy presence (and maybe her warm breath ). She's affectionate, funny, and endlessly devoted. She is basically the kind of dog who makes every day better just by being there. Our Plum is still very much a puppy. The vet estimates she's between 1-2 years old, and it's clear she didn't have much structure before joining the Dark Horse family, so the world is her oyster. Because she's in that puppy stage, she explores the world with her mouth, which means she's looking for a home that's ready to be puppy-proofed and patient as she learns what's hers (and what definitely isn't). She loves playing with toys, especially bones and things made for chewing. Plum has been working hard on building her confidence and has made great progress learning her manners. She knows sit, stay, eye contact, and off, and she's still working on down. She can be a little sensitive and nervous at times, but she's a quick learner, and some of her early fears, like doorways, are already becoming a thing of the past. Plum is very reliable about using pee-pee pads and will also potty outside, but she hasn't quite figured out that outside is the main bathroom yet. At her foster home, she is kenneled during the day and has a dog walker, but she does urinate in her crate. This seems to be anxiety-related. She is making progress, but it's a work in progress and will require patience, consistency, and understanding. Plum is a small-to-medium sized dog and is likely close to being full grown. She's a great size for apartment living or for someone who wants a dog they can pick up. She does not know a stranger and happily greets visitors. On the day Plum left the shelter, she met Ham Sandwich (Hammy), and they got along famously, so Hammy joined the fun. They've been wonderful companions and playmates, supporting each other as they build confidence and clearly finding comfort in one another. Hammy and Plum could be adopted together. If Plum doesn't go home with Hammy, she would likely do well with another dog who's tolerant of a bratty baby sister, because Plum is very cute, and she can also be a little ornery. Plum is still learning about the world, but she's trying her best. She's looking for a home that will give her patience, structure, love, and lots of cuddles in return, which she will happily repay tenfold.
