Hammy is a big-headed boy with a smol body, and honestly, it's impossible not to fall in love at first sight. His coat is literal velvet and perfectly matches his soulful eyes. Once you get over how freakin' cute he is (good luck), you'll quickly realize that he's also a bit of a ham, in the very best way. He loves bouncing through the snow, gets such intense zoomies that he looks like a flying peanut, and is, objectively, a very good boy. Hammy, Hamilton, Hammond... is still young and building his skill set. He knows how to sit and is getting better at stay. He may have a big head and not quite as many smarts yet, but what he lacks in brainpower he more than makes up for in enthusiasm and his eagerness to please. He truly just wants to be your guy. Hammy is young, but he doesn't always come with overwhelming puppy energy. While he absolutely can rip and run, he's not constantly into everything like some puppies are. He enjoys playing with toys, hanging out with his foster sister, and happily settling in with a good bone to chew. As a younger guy, Hammy is still working on potty training. He's making progress, but right now does best with a consistent schedule and regular trips outside. He's still learning to fully connect the dots that outside is the bathroom and to give clearer signals when he needs to go. He does wear a belly band at times, which he tolerates very well and doesn't seem bothered by. Hammy came into his foster home with not a lot of confidence. He was brought to the shelter as a stray, which may explain some of his caution around new experiences. Leashes were new to him, and he's still learning what it means to be connected to a person. He's improving steadily but is still working on not pulling and managing his excitement when he sees other people and dogs. He can be a strong pull on the leash, especially when another dog is behind a fence. One of Hammy's quirks is that he's a bit of a Luddite. He's not a fan of loud household electronics like the vacuum, blow dryer, or electric toothbrush. These noises can make him anxious, and he may bark, jump, or get a little nippy when they're in use. His foster mom is actively working on desensitization, but this is something that will take time, patience, and continued positive reinforcement. Hammy is a sweet, earnest boy who is still learning how to feel confident and safe in the world. With structure, patience, and love, he continues to make progress and he'll be incredibly devoted to the person (or people) who give him that chance. Hammy is a small-to-medium sized dog and is likely close to being full grown. He's a great size for apartment living or for someone who wants a dog they can pick up when needed. She does not know a stranger and happily greets visitors. On the day Hammy left the shelter, he met Plum, and they got along famously, so Plum joined the fun. They've been wonderful companions and playmates, supporting each other as they build confidence and clearly finding comfort in one another. Hammy and Plum could be adopted together. If Hammy doesn't go home with Plum, he could go into a home with another dog or perhaps be an only dog. Hammy is a sweet, earnest boy who is still learning how to feel confident and safe in the world. With patience, structure, and love, he'll continue to grow, and will be deeply devoted to the person or family who gives him that chance.
