About Moxxi
** $1,818 in pledges to any rescue that may pull! ** *Interested foster through rescue* ** New Medical 1/2 ** Moxxi ACCT-A-239201 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Moxxi must have confirmed placement with a RESCUE PARTNER or ADOPTER by SATURDAY, JANUARY 3RD at 10AM. Should Moxxi's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change. Moxxi was brought to ACCT Philly on December 12th after being found outside of someone's house. During her short time with the finder, Moxxi was described as good on leash, "fair" with strangers, good with animals and children, and friendly, cuddly, and playful. In the shelter environment, Moxxi has shown that she can be initially wary, but with time, patience, and positive reinforcement, she has shown significant improvement. Once outside or given space to warm up, Moxxi becomes playful, affectionate, and eager to engage, especially when tennis balls are involved. She enjoys fetch, zoomies, tug, and physical affection once she feels comfortable. She also did well with another dog in the yard. Staff and volunteers consistently note her medium to high energy, playful nature, and her ability to form gentle, trusting connections after an initial adjustment period. Moxxi would do best with a handler who understands large, strong dogs and can give her time to decompress and build trust. Due to her length of stay, Moxxi is urgently seeking placement with a rescue partner or adopter. Per volunteer 12/23: Medium energy. Easy in/out. A little awkward in the yard. Mostly ignored me. Gentle with treats. Per staff 12/18: Medium energy. Very good girl. Playful. Likes to play tug of war. Per staff 12/17: High energy. Good girl. Likes to play. Hard good greet thru fence. Per staff 12/16: Medium energy. Per staff 12/15: A bit timid, didn't interact w/ me much + didn't like being out in snow much. Opened up as we were waiting for her kennel to get cleaned. She leaned up against me while she sat next to me and accepted pets. Per staff: Eval based on interaction on 12/14 PM: Kennel Presentation: Presented at the front, bright & attentive, relaxed face, panting; no growling, alert or hard barking, or other reactivity noted (as had been in previous interactions). Leash Skills: Bit shy for looping (fidgeting made it slightly difficult to get the slip secured), but easy, smooth exit once on. Pulled moderately through the kennel area and once outside. Peed & pooped in the yard within a few minutes. Sociability: Outdoors, was focused on relieving herself and sniffing around the yard. Inside, in the eval room, remained curious, and after some play with tennis balls, accepted and begin leaning into pets, enjoying booty scratches while attempting to snuggle backwards into my lap. Accepted touch on the head, neck, shoulders, back, and hind. Play: Quickly brightened up whenever a tennis ball was involved. Wasn't particularly interested in other toys, but loves chasing tennis balls, and has fetch down about 80% (likes to hog the ball occasionally). Dog Interaction: Didn't seem at all fazed by barking in kennels, and didn't seem very interested in interacting with kenneled dogs we passed while walking. Didn't pass any other dogs while outdoors. Return to Kennel: No issues. Hopped in by herself, easily removed leash. Color Level: Blue (Elevated FAS in shelter environment, and new handlers may need to take a slow approach to gain her trust; large, strong dog who needs a handler prepared for possible stranger danger, possible kennel reactivity, and probable BIG zoomies) Per staff 12/13 PM: Found Moxxi slightly reactive in-kennel (low growling, alert barking with wide eyes and tight mouth) which dissipated quickly when I presented treats and the leash. She didn't eat any treats I tossed into her kennel, but would consistently quiet, direct her attention to them, then timidly with low posture go over to sniff them. No issues leashing - presented at the front, easy loop, smooth exit. Excitedly made her way outdoors with slow low/medium tail wags. Pulled moderately to heavily throughout. Peed as soon as she was out the door, sniffed around on the grass and fence, then pooped shortly afterward, and as soon as she was done, burst out into big zoomies, running in big semicircles as far as the leash would go. Enjoyed sprinting up and down the patch of grass behind the healthy play yards a couple times (at least, sprinting only as fast as I could keep up with her). Tolerated a couple light touches while sniffing around in a play yard, but didn't solicit further attention. Easy return to kennel. Per staff 12/13: Medium energy. Happy on walk, played in snow, good on walk and on leash. Per staff 12/13: As I approached her kennel, she let out a low growl. She was laying down and did not move, but her head was turned towards me. Per staff 12/12: Her behavior is weary she tried to go after mail man while in intake. Also was tense when I tried to scan her but she approached me. Put on eval. MEDICAL: New!
