About Maple
đ Important Information All of our dogs are currently in foster homes in Mexico đ˛đ˝, where they receive medical care, socialization, and daily love. They are listed as being in Sherwood, Oregon because that is where our rescue is officially based for adoption purposes. To keep our dogs safe and reduce unnecessary stress, we do not fly dogs to Oregon until we have an approved adopter đĄ. Once adoption is approved, we coordinate the dogâs flight directly to Portland (PDX) where they arrive ready to go home with their new family. Typical timing is 2â4 weeks after approval âł. đ About The Meximutt Project (A Born Again Pit Bull Rescue initiative) Over 18 million dogs live on Mexicoâs streets. Our organization works at the source through rescue, spay/neuter programs, and adoption into loving Oregon homes. Since 2019: đś 460+ dogs adopted âď¸ 3,500+ dogs spayed/neutered đ Interested in adopting? PLEASE APPLY AT www.bapbr.org â ď¸ Weâre unable to respond to Petfinder messages due to a system issue that prevents us from viewing them. ************************** ⢠AGE: ~3 years old ⢠WEIGHT: ~48 lbs ⢠BREED(S): Doberman Pharaoh Hound mix (our best guess since theyâre rescues!) ⢠GOOD WITH KIDS? Yes, but please keep in mind that they must be taught to respect the dogâs space, belongings, and food. ⢠HOUSEBROKEN? NOT 100% YET. As a dog rescued off the street and transitioning from living on indoor tile/ outdoor dirt surfaces in Mexico, they'll need time and patience to adjust to a new environment, but most of our dogs adapt to a potty routine within 1-2 weeks with consistent training. đž Meet Maple đž It was 3 a.m. when Maple decided her wandering days were over. She'd been roaming the streets in the dark, following strangers, searching for someoneâanyoneâwho might help. When she spotted a young man walking home, something told her: this one. She followed him all the way to his house, and when he went inside, she lay down on the doorstep and waited. An hour passed. Two hours. When he peeked out to check, she was still there, eyes hopeful, tail giving a tentative wag. She couldn't be left behind after that kind of devotion. When she arrived, Maple was in rough shape. Her teeth were deteriorating, her skin was inflamed and itchy, patches of fur missing from constant scratching. She was thin, exhausted, desperately thirsty. For the first 24 hours, she did nothing but sleepâher body finally allowing itself to rest after who knows how long surviving on the streets. The transformation has been remarkable. With treatment, the itching stopped and her coat grew back sleek and shiny. She's gained healthy weight, her energy has returned, and that playful spirit that was buried under exhaustion? It's fully emerged. "She's just so happy now," her foster mom says. "She wants to play all the timeâfetch, tug-of-war, wrestling with the other dogs. She's up for anything." Maple loves toys of all kinds and will entertain herself for hours, but what she really wants is to play with you. Throw a ball and she'll sprint after it with those long Pharaoh Hound legs, bring it back, and drop it at your feet with her whole body wiggling. She's active and athletic, but she also knows how to settle when playtime's over. Here's the thing about Maple: she's a velcro dog through and through. Wherever you go, she goes. Kitchen? She's there. Bathroom? She's waiting outside the door. Working at your desk? She's lying at your feet. She's not demanding or anxious about itâshe just genuinely wants to be near her person. "She's so smart and so eager to please," her foster says. "She learned her name almost immediately, and she already knows 'sit.' I have no doubt she'd pick up training really fast with someone who worked with her." She gets excited when you come homeâwill do a little happy dance and let out a few brief barksâbut she settles quickly. It's just pure joy at seeing you again. When you take her out for walks, she lights up completely, pulling a bit on the leash in her enthusiasm to explore the world with you. Cats aren't her thingâthey make her nervous, and she'd prefer a cat-free home where she doesn't have to worry about them. Maple would thrive with an active person or family who can give her the exercise and mental stimulation she craves. A home with a yard would be ideal for her to run and play, though she could adapt to apartment life with sufficient outdoor time. She'd love a canine sibling to romp with or would be just as happy as your one-and-only. What she really needs is someone looking for a loyal companionâa dog who'll follow you on every adventure, big or small, and look at you like you hung the moon. Are you ready for a dog who chose love once in the middle of the night and is ready to choose you every single day? ************************* đ Ready to apply?
