She’s a classic Treeing Walker Coonhound, cheerful and full of life, who needs to stay within an hour’s drive of Wake Forest, NC while undergoing heartworm treatment (which the rescue covers). Gracie is the kind of dog who thinks everyone is a friend—dogs, kids, new faces, it doesn’t matter, she meets them all with her tail wagging. She hasn’t met cats, so her stance there is still a mystery. If you’re hoping to avoid some of the basics, Gracie delivers. She’s house trained, takes direction well, and her recall is especially sharp. Leash walks are a work in progress, but she’s learning fast and responds to encouragement. A fenced yard at least four feet tall is best for her, both to give her room to play and to help her settle fully into leash walking. Gracie could fit in as your only companion or join a home with other dogs, though sharing life with another pup is likely her favorite. She’s energetic, likes to be in the mix, and will absolutely find that snack on your kitchen counter if you’re not paying attention. Chew toys are a must, and so is being part of the household action. Car rides are still new territory for Gracie, and sometimes she gets queasy, but she’s making progress.
