Athena has been waiting in rescue for three years and is now searching for the loving home she’s always deserved. Used for breeding and neglected most of her early life, she was left behind when her previous owner reclaimed her companion, simply because she was no longer useful. Since then, Athena has learned trust and affection in foster care. She’s discovered the comfort of a warm house, good food, and the joy of couch cuddles. That signature bark—more like a sputtering motorcycle than anything else—will let you know when she’s happy. Athena is slow to trust but, with patience and kindness, reveals her gentle, affectionate side. She prefers female humans and very submissive male dogs, but over time can warm up to men, too. Meeting new people, she can be wary at first and may growl, but usually settles in for cuddles after a little while. With dogs, Athena does best with calm, submissive males and does not get along with most others. She’s likely happiest as an only pet, though she did once have a best buddy—fellow troublemaker Liam. She has been spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and is crate trained. Athena knows basic commands and is excited (if sometimes overeager) on a leash, probably because walks are still a new delight. At heart, Athena is laid-back and happiest simply relaxing by your side. Born March 1 (making her a Pisces, loyal and sensitive), she’s in Tracy, CA and ready for her last, best chapter.
