About Laurel

Laurel is a hefty, affectionate Mastador—a cross between a Mastiff and a Labrador Retriever—tipping the scale at about 100 lbs and roughly three years old. She came from tough beginnings: surrendered to a rural shelter in South Carolina along with her six puppies, Laurel waited for months before finally being chosen by rescue. Her old owners never even bothered to give her a proper name, just called her “Girl.” Now, Laurel is looking for a home where she can truly belong. She thrives around people, shows real sweetness, and does best with gentle, dog-savvy kids over ten who aren’t too rowdy. Laurel’s relationships with other big dogs can be mixed—she mostly ignores them but has grumped at a few through the fence. She might get along with a calm, laid-back male or would gladly soak up all the attention as a solo dog. She hasn’t interacted with smaller dogs much and only caught fleeting glimpses of barn cats, so homes without small pets or cats are likely the safest bet. Laurel is spirited and playful but also knows when to settle down for a nap. She’s housebroken, understands basic commands, uses a dog door, and is working on leash manners. Fully vetted, vaccinated, spayed, and microchipped, she is currently on heartworm treatment and will bring her necessary medication to her new home. The rescue can arrange nationwide adoptions but prefers adopters willing to meet her in person for the best match. She’s hoping for a chance at a stable, loving home—preferably her last one.
