About Sam
Sam is a reserved terrier mix who’s spent nearly six years waiting for the right home. He arrived as a scared, mange-ridden pup and, despite being adopted, was returned because of his nervous nature. Change is hard for Sam—he spooks easily, and almost everything makes him uncertain until he’s sure it’s safe. But once he’s had time to settle and get to know his people, a steady, gentle side comes out: Sam will quietly lay beside you, accept pets, and even share an occasional game of chase or fetch. He’s never been much of a lap dog, but he forms tight bonds in his own way, especially with patient adults. Sam is house and crate trained, walks decently on leash, and truly blooms around other dogs after an adjustment period—though he’s a bit snappy when first meeting new canine friends, he soon relaxes and becomes playful. For Sam to thrive, he needs a quiet home with no children or teens and adopters who understand it takes time for him to feel safe. Given some patience, he’ll be a devoted companion.
