About Red Dog

Red Dog has spent over four years at the rescue, still waiting for the right person to see past his quiet reserve and give him a real home. He greets volunteers with tail wags and asks for attention, but you can tell he feels more comfortable when things are calm. He loves to play, especially if you earn his trust first. Red Dog is a self-admitted weirdo in the best way—quirky, sometimes a little standoffish, but underneath he's a total sweetheart. His story starts at Long County Animal Control, where he was set to be euthanized because of his crippling fear. With a rough history of abuse, he’s made significant progress at the rescue, and now he spends his days running with a big pack of dogs or playing with toys on the farm. Red Dog is shy at first, especially around things like harnesses, but he’s very food motivated and learns fast. He can play rough and get jumpy when excited, so a patient adopter is important—someone who understands he might take his time to warm up. A fenced yard is a requirement for his safety and comfort. Red Dog is neutered, house trained, gets along with both cats and dogs, and has plenty of love left to give. He doesn’t deserve to live out his life at the rescue. What are you waiting for?
