About Currant

Start your journey together! Apply now. Meet Currant, a 15-year-old, 10lb Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix who has a gentle, timid soul and thrives best in a calm, suburban or rural environment. She much prefers peaceful surroundings over the hustle and noise of city life. Currant’s foster family describes her as incredibly sweet and gentle. She starts off shy, quietly observing from her crate, but warms up with treats and patience—growing gradually more trusting and willing to approach. She enjoys her mealtimes and follows whoever is preparing her food, though she returns to her crate when done exploring. Currant is calm, quiet, and enjoys the routine of a peaceful home with minimal disturbances. She is potty trained for yard breaks and also knows how to use wee pads in her playpen if needed. With other dogs, she coexists well if they are calm and respectful. She’s fine with cats and is best in an adult or mature household—young children and rambunctious pets can be overwhelming for her. While not particularly playful with others, she enjoys being near people she trusts but isn’t a lap dog, preferring to rest nearby rather than snuggle. Though not a fan of leash walks, she does fine off-leash in a secure yard, and she’s comfortable being left alone, usually napping or relaxing without fuss. Currant’s adopter should be ready for the special needs that come with a senior pet, like health monitoring and ongoing veterinary care, including annual checkups and dental visits. She is up to date on vaccines, spayed, microchipped, and has cleared her heartworm test. Her background is one of rescue and hope—a dedicated team brought her north from a sheltering situation where she faced an uncertain future. They are ready to love you; are you ready to apply?
