About Tom

Tom is around 6 to 8 years old and absolutely packed with character. He’s lived successfully with another dog in foster and jumps right into play, whether it’s fetch, tug, or zipping through his favorite tunnel. Affection is big with Tom—he’ll offer up his belly for rubs, hand out kisses, and if you let him, he’ll snuggle in close. He’s been known to try his luck playing with chickens—no cats for him though—and makes his preferences clear: leaf blowers are a hard no, but a good bone or ball lights him up. He responds to a solid list of commands including sit, wait, come, lay down, and paw. While he’s small to medium in stature, he’s got the hops, driving his foster to start some casual agility training to keep his energy in check. Don’t expect him to use those skills to jump baby gates, though; he’s blissfully unaware that he could. Tom is fully potty- and crate-trained, but he’s not destructive if left out. He views his crate as his haven, especially when he’s scored a top-tier treat. Tom comes from a rough beginning—seized from a homicide investigation where he lived chained up outside. He does show some scars, both physical and emotional, and can be wary of strangers. Consistent training and slow introductions are helping him, and he needs a committed owner who can be patient with his triggers. For those willing to go the distance, Tom will prove a loyal, joyful companion. Click apply to start the adoption process.
