Sicily
AvailableSicily is a medium-sized, adult female with a striking black coat. She is a Shar-Pei and Pit Bull Terrier mix, spayed and up to date on vaccinations. At about 4 years and 4 months old, Sicily is currently in Sarasota, FL, looking for her forever home.
About Sicily
Sicily arrived at the rescue guarded and uneasy, trusting only a few staff, and preferring her own space. Over time, her curiosity got the better of her, and she slowly started to engage—first taking treats, then venturing outside more readily. The turning point came when Peg, her patient Woof Pack leader, spent extra time coaxing out her playful side. Now, Sicily eagerly greets staff, shares kisses, indulges in belly rubs, and can be found zooming around the backyard or playing with her toys. She's still somewhat cautious, particularly around men, and tends to seek out the comfort of women, but her confidence is building every day. Sicily's story is proof that even the shy, hesitant dogs can grow into spirited, affectionate companions with the right support. If you’re looking for a quirky, loving dog ready to blossom in a steady home, Sicily will reward your patience with plenty of affection and goofy moments. Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you.

Questions about Sicily
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Sicily, as a Shar-Pei and Pit Bull Terrier mix, usually does well in a calm and stable home that provides plenty of structure and gentle guidance. She appreciates a space where she can relax, build trust, and slowly adapt to new experiences.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
A medium-sized yard or access to daily walks is ideal for Sicily. She loves running around outside, especially when she feels secure, so a fenced area where she can safely explore and play is helpful.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Sicily’s breed mix often does well with children if the kids are dog-savvy and interactions are supervised, especially given her initially shy nature. Gentle, respectful children would be a good fit for her as she continues to gain confidence.
