About Opie
Opie has survived a lot in his short life. After enduring 44 days alone, scavenging and fending for himself, he’s still catching up on weight and learning to trust people again. Shy around new faces and slow to open up, he’s been through a traumatizing ordeal, but you can see signs of hope as he starts to wag his tail and “talk” with those he’s grown comfortable around. Opie does especially well with other dogs—having canine companions around is a big comfort for him. His ordeal ended only after hours of patient coaxing with rotisserie chicken when he finally allowed himself to be rescued. He is still getting used to being safe but improves each day, leaving behind that shut-down, distant look in his eyes. Now he just needs someone steady and kind to help him along the road back to confidence. What are you waiting for? Apply today!

Questions about Opie
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Opie, being a pit bull terrier and American Staffordshire terrier mix, does best in a stable, calm home with people who understand shy or recovering dogs. A quiet environment where he can gradually build trust is ideal.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Pit bull terrier and American Staffordshire terrier mixes like Opie appreciate having a secure yard to play and relax, but regular walks and spending time with humans are just as important for their well-being.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Many pit bull mixes are suitable for homes with respectful children. However, because Opie is shy and still recovering from trauma, a quieter home with older children or adults may help him adjust more comfortably at first.
