Max
AvailableMax is a large, male mixed-breed Black Labrador Retriever and Basset Hound with a short black coat. He is house trained, vaccinated, and neutered. Max is currently in Selma, CA, waiting for an experienced adopter who can continue to support his growth and trust.
About Max
Max came to the rescue after his owner left and didn't stay involved in his care, and he spent much of his early life without proper socialization. He developed some tough behaviors, including biting people and other dogs at first, which led to his move to an outdoor kennel. Over time, Max learned to trust the right people, even warming up to a previously disliked man through patient work. With consistent training, Max has started to show the affectionate, playful side he was missing out on for so long. He does need an adopter who understands his history and is prepared for the nuances he brings—someone experienced with dogs who have triggers. For Max, a new home or foster setting would mean the chance at a real second start, one where someone can help him continue his progress and simply give him a chance. Make his next move his last one—bring Max home and show him how good life can be. Click apply and let the tail-wagging begin!

Questions about Max
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Max, a Black Labrador Retriever/Basset Hound mix, does best in a stable home with experienced owners. A calmer, structured environment suits him best, especially where he can have consistent guidance.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Max would enjoy a home with a secure yard where he can stretch and play. As a large mixed-breed dog, access to outdoor space is ideal for his physical and mental well-being.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Max's breed mix generally adapts to families, but Max himself needs a home without children due to his history with triggers and biting. Adults who can respect his boundaries will be best.
