About Norton
Norton is a gentle giant who has come a long way since his days living outdoors and fending for himself. After a rough start, he's settled into foster care and is working out what it means to be safe and part of a family. Norton is shy at first, particularly around new people and especially men, but with patience and understanding, he reveals a soft, affectionate side. He's touch-sensitive near his neck and the area around his missing eye, but once trust is built, he enjoys gentle affection on his own terms. Norton does well with calm, slow introductions to other dogs and cats. In his foster home, supervised interactions have helped him get along nicely with both. He's house-trained, crate-trained, and likes quiet activities—leisurely car rides, listening to the world from a park bench, relaxing alongside his people. Loud or chaotic environments make him nervous, so a secure yard with tall fencing is a must. Norton is best suited to an adult-only home where the pace is calm and steady. He’ll thrive with someone experienced with shy, sensitive dogs, ready to move slowly and help him continue to build confidence. If you want a loyal companion who just needs a little patience and space to blossom, Norton could be the one. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!

Questions about Norton
What type of living environment is this breed usually best suited for?
Norton, as a Great Pyrenees/Mixed Breed, does best in a calm, spacious environment with access to a secure yard. A quiet, adult household works best for his sensitivity and large size.
How much outdoor space does this breed typically need?
Great Pyrenees mixes like Norton are happiest with a fenced yard where they can move about safely. Regular outdoor time is important for their well-being, but it should be secure and supervised given Norton's nervousness.
Is this breed typically suitable for homes with children?
Generally, Great Pyrenees are patient, but Norton prefers an adult-only home due to his shy nature and sensitivity. He would be most comfortable without young children around.
