Mabel is an American Staffordshire Terrier in Washington, PA, with a striking brown coat and a medium build, weighing around 40 pounds. She’s a spayed female, vaccinated, and house trained. At about 8 years and 9 months old, she’s made big health strides since her tough beginnings. She does best in a home without cats and needs an adopter who appreciates her gentle spirit and resilience.

About Mabel

Mabel’s story hasn’t been easy. At five, she landed in the Humane Society of St Thomas a stray, worn down by mange and hunger, her eyes clouded with infection, heartworm positive, and heavily pregnant. Her health was so poor she needed to be spayed on arrival—she never got to meet her pups. Even after all this, Mabel just wants to be close to people. She’s sweet and friendly with adults and kids alike. Cats, however, are not her thing, and with dogs she’s selective—years of being crated haven’t made socializing easy. But she’s improved steadily at Pet Search: her skin is healing, heartworm treatment is well underway (fully covered by her adoption fee), and she’s finally discovering what it means to play. She loves walks and, at a manageable 40 pounds, is the perfect size for snuggling in your lap—which she will do every chance she gets. If you’re looking for a soulful, affectionate companion who’s overdue for a safe, loving home, Mabel’s waiting in Washington, PA. They are ready to love you; are you ready to apply?
