Meet Xyla, a strawberry-blonde terrier mix affectionately nicknamed “the Chicote” for her wispy, feather-like fur and the lean-legged elegance of a tiny coyote. Rescued as a puppy from California’s Central Valley and brought to the Bay Area in search of a loving home, Xyla has grown into a loyal and affectionate companion. She can be shy around new people and tends to get nervous—and barky—around big dogs, runners, or kids on skateboards and scooters. But with a little time and patience, she warms up beautifully and becomes deeply attached to her people. She’ll drop whatever she’s doing when you call her name, and she loves nothing more than belly rubs and cuddle time. Xyla is fully housetrained and crate-trained—at night, she’ll often tuck herself in without being asked. Like any good terrier, she’s got a spirited side and will happily dart after squirrels or chipmunks, but she’s easily redirected and walks well on leash. If she hears an odd noise, she may dash outside for a quick bark but comes right back when called. She’s clever and responsive, already knowing cues like sit, wait, and drop. She adores being brushed and has a hilarious habit of wriggling her whole body across patches of astroturf or stubby grass—it’s one of her favorite ways to enjoy life, and it’s impossible not to laugh watching her do it.
