If you are interested in any of the dogs available at New Leash Rescue, you can reach out to the foster listed below for more information and then complete an adoption application which can be found at https://www.newleashrescue.org/adopt/policy. Please email the completed application to newleashrescue2018@gmail.com Codie is 5 years old and estimated to be a chihuahua/dachshund mix. He came to rescue when his elderly owner passed away and he ended up in a shelter where he was at risk of being euthanized. Codie is a velcro dog and wants to be with his people all the time. He would be an amazing constant companion for a senior, and that is what he is used to. Codie tends to bond heavily with his person, takes awhile to warm up to new people. He would do best in a quieter environment where there are not constant visitors coming and going. He will bark at new people - he will take tasty treats from them too, but he needs to be able to come around to them on his own terms, and some men may take him longer to do this with. His old owner was a man, and he also took awhile to warm up to his foster mom also. Codie does well on house training and crate training as long as he is getting outside often enough. Codie can be a barker, so he is not recommended for apartments or homes with shared walls where this can be a concern. He would also not do well there with all the extra visitors and people he may regularly encounter. Codie is a good boy who deserves a forever home - he will just need a family who is patient and not expecting him to hit the ground running and do great with everything on day one. If you're open to earning a dog's trust and seeing the loyalty that comes with that, Codie is the dog for you. Adoption fee is $450.00 + tax (no checks) Email to contact: newleashrescue2018@gmail.com Our fosters do the best they can to provide all information about the animal's background and temperament while in foster care in their home. An adopters routine and home environment is likely going to be different than that in their foster home. Sometimes there is more that comes out about a dog's personality once they have been able to settle in a home and truly become comfortable. There are great articles out there written about the different stages a pet goes through after adoption, discussing transitions that happen at 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 months. We highly recommend reading about this - it will help you understand the transition your new pet goes through.
