Petrie came to LCSPCA as a transfer from the county pound, on 12/20/24, weighing 40 lbs. He was estimated to be about 3 years old at that time. Petrie is friendly, curious, athletic, muscular, agile, enjoys toys and balls and is very trained and focused on people and their commands. He seems attentive and smart. Petrie would be well-suited for an active home where he could run, hike or explore. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative and ready to be adopted. At the shelter he has not been mixed with other dogs yet so we are not positive if he is good with them or not. He will run the fence line back and forth getting excited when he sees other dogs running in next door fenced areas but does not bark at them. He may get along with other dogs though because a person recently came in to claim Petrie was her lost dog. She told us she has several dogs and Petrie gets along with them. She left saying she'd be back for him, but then never showed up again, so that is why he is up for adoption. Petrie is likely at least part Black Mouth Cur so he probably has a strong prey drive and might not be great with small animals. They usually make excellent watch dogs, are hearty outdoors types, are very brave and take pride in having a job guarding their owners and property. They like to run and explore, hike and be active and will often chase off predators or critters, large and small. Black Mouth Cur are most typically brownish-red with a black muzzle, but some are brindle and/or have touches of white. Petrie might also be mixed with a bully breed terrier or some sort due to his coloring and features, but he's on the small side at just 40 lbs. for that. He's a compact, muscular medium sized dog.
