She was living in a very abusive household that used her for breeding purposes only. The neighbors had been very concerned for Sophia and had made many attempts to pull Sophia from the home. Finally the owners were jailed on unrelated charges and the home was left empty and abandoned, all except for Sophia. With official abandonment the neighbors were able to retrieve Sophia from the home and finally get her proper care and attention. Sophia’s condition was much worse than anyone had predicted. She was malnourished and extremely scared of human interaction. After lots of medical care and patience Sophia slowly began to trust. She became friends with other dogs in rescue and used them to help her gain the confidence she needed to live a normal life. Sophia is still very nervous meeting new people, but has never been aggressive. She does the best when she has a dog companion with her to help guide her and let her know everything is safe.
