Every animal deserves a happy ending. This one starts with you. Lump is a one-year-old black and tan smooth-haired dachshund mix who has shown incredible resilience. After surviving abandonment on the streets of Houston at just two months old, he has understandably become tentative with strangers, whether canine or human. Building trust will be a journey, and he will need a patient family to help him continue blossoming. Despite his initial shyness, Lump is devoted to his foster family and tries to engage their dogs in playful antics. If they are uninterested, he makes his own fun, zooming around the house or yard and keeping himself entertained with backyard squirrel and lizard chases. His athleticism shines in these moments, and he would be happiest in an active home, preferably with a yard and perhaps a playful dog companion. Squeaky toys, long-lasting chews, and stuffed frozen Kongs keep him busy, and he truly adores snuggling up in bed or on the sofa with his foster parents. Walks in the neighborhood—and especially at the Houston Arboretum—bring out his joyful side. Lump is crate trained for when left alone and is house trained. He is searching for a loving home where he can feel secure and cherished. Make their next chapter their best one yet.
