About Buddy
Meet Buddy, a mix with Doberman Pinscher roots and unique looks that fool most into thinking he's a Gordon Setter. Pulled from a Nevada shelter when his future was uncertain, Buddy came into rescue thanks to some quick action and a DNA test that surprised everyone. His lineage boasts Doberman, some herding breeds, and a little bit of everything else. Buddy is about four years old, neutered, up to date on all vaccines, wormed, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He’s being treated for Chagas Disease—a health issue he carries but won't spread to other dogs. Despite a rough patch as a stray, Buddy’s affectionate nature is shining through in foster care. He’s food motivated, works well for string cheese, and takes treats with gentle manners. As a smart dog, he trains quickly but needs a steady hand; he’s strong on leash and benefits from consistent leadership. His manners with people are solid—calm and curious at the vet, friendly with staff, and unfazed by commotion from other dogs. Buddy’s early life left him somewhat protective over his food bowl, a habit he’s steadily improving on with guidance. He loves athletic activity and mental challenges, making him a strong fit for active households, runners, or folks interested in dog sports. A securely fenced yard is necessary, and he’s best for adult-only homes due to his unknown background. He does not get along with cats, so a cat-free home is required. Buddy is fostered just west of Las Vegas, near southern California—some transport is possible to the right adopter. Ready to meet your new best friend? Apply now!
